Pike Place Market

This was not the first time I went to Pike Place Market and this is the picture that I took on Sunday. Compare it to the one I chose from the internet. I found that a lot has changed since that time-the buildings and the people. From the picture I found, it shows that the buildings are designed very bad and built badly. The builders use old wood to build the buildings. They didn’t look like very solid and there wasn’t any advertisement on those buildings. There seemed not as many shops as there are today. The people there from the picture I chose are very rich at that time, because the clothes they wore looked like they were all rich people there, and rich people have cars. I thought at that time, only the people who were very rich had cars and they also wore suits. People who wore suits must be rich people. From my picture, I can found that there weren’t only rich people there. There also tourists and the normal families there. I saw that some of the people also took their pets to Pike Place Market. It is a good place to help farmers and fishermen to sell their product in the market. They were good, fresh and healthy. There were also many little shops on the side of the road today. They also have a lot of colorful advertisements at every door of the little shops. If you look at them carefully, you can find many delicious foods there. They were not expensive, but they were really good. You also can find some old things and many cheap things there. Maybe because there are too many people who go to Pike Place Market every day, I found that it is not as clean as the other place in Seattle.

Pike Place Park

     When I knew this homework, I didn’t know how to do that because I thought it didn’t make any sense. I don’t think there are many difference between the photos come from the UBW website and the photos I take. I went to Pike Place Park with my question. This is also a chance for me because I never been to Pike Place Park except I have waited for somebody once before. I went to Pike Place Park on last Sunday, when I got there; I just had one word in my mind—cool! Except Fourth of July, I have never seen so many people in a place. I took some pictures for this assignment, and then I went to the website which my teacher gave me. When I looked at those photos, I found out the difference. All the pictures on the website are old pictures, and I guess those pictures should be described about fifty years ago. Actually, I don’t think the Pike Place Park change a lot. For example, the picture I choose on the website and I take in the park, they are the same place, it is the entrance for the Farmer Market. The buildings don’t change a lot, the street doesn’t change a lot, and the sigh for the market doesn’t change a lot. The clearest thing I can see the difference is the people. They wear different clothing, they drive modern cars. However, the Pike Place Park doesn’t change a lot, but it always a popular place for people to go.

     I think the Pike Place Park also tells me an idea. No matter how the world changes, no matter how many new high technologies be created, some traditional thing would never change.

Lunar New Year Party

Lunar New Year means a lot in Asian. Before I came to America, I thought that Lunar New Year is only belongs to China, but after I came to America, I knew that Lunar New Year is a big festival all around the Asian. Some countries may not call it Lunar New Year, but they still celebrate it the same day as we do. In Chinese, Lunar New Year also called Spring Festival. Spring is a season that everything grow so that Lunar New Year means a new start. Last year, school holds the Lunar New Year party for us and it is good, but there still lost something inside. So, this time we decided to hold the party by ourselves, because this is our celebration and we know exactly what it is look like. We know it better. Some UW and Cascadia students got together this time and helped to organize the party. We spend a lot of time on the things but the result still made me didn’t feel very good. First, I spend a lot of time talking to Masaru and teachers. I want all the ELP students could come to the party, because this is our festival and this is also a good chance to talk to the Americans. They can show themselves on the stage and enjoy the time. But the result is, they don’t seem very exciting about all the things. They just sat with all the Chinese students and talking to each other and they didn’t pay attention to the things that we were doing on the stage. This made me very upset. This was not what I think first. I think that to be an Asian student, especially a Chinese student, they should show the basic respect to the person who were giving a performance on the stage. At least, they should show the basic respect to the festival. When I was walking in the North Creek Center I heard that one Chinese student said that the boy who was just singing on the stage sang terrible. He said he could sing better and another boy said that if he thought this way why didn’t he go there and sing. And the Chinese student said this was not a Karaoke so that he disdained to sing up there. I didn’t know why he thinks this way. I think that at least the boy on the stage has the courage to sing in front of the school. At least he had confidence and at least he joined the party positive. It’s very thankful that the people who were working at the party all the time. Whatever, this is a good party I think. We all worked hard on it, so that we didn’t have any fault and regret. 

  

 

   

This is a red lion. Kind of a custom. Somebody can wear it and make actions. I can’t do it, but if you search on the internet, there may some on there. Sometimes they use red dragon, but a dragon need more people to act because a dragon is bigger than a lion.  

 

   

The song witch Star and Bijun sing together was really great. It is a very sweet song. In here you all know Romeo and Juliet but in China we have Shanbo Liang and Yingtai Zhu, it is also a love story. This song called Shanbo Liang and Juliet it joined the two love stories together. It is very special and romantic.  

 

   

Star and I also had a song together. I like this song best and actually we practiced all night so that I have 100% confidence with us. It is also a love song and it means that if a butterfly wants to fly and dance it must to have a callus first. It has good meaning inside and I love it rhythm.  

If I have a chance I still want to join the party together.

Lunar New Year Party

  On February 23rd, I had a good time in Lunar New Year Party. There were many people here. I could feel that the North Event Center didn’t have enough space for so many people. I am so glad that everybody; no matter where are they come from, they are interested about Chinaese culture. Of course, this is also the culture for many Asian courtries, this is a new inormation for me. See, there were a lot of people.

I was interested in the food. The food was good, the party served fried rice, fried noodle, dumplings, and egg rolls. I saw many people was enjoy the food, that was so great. On the other hand, I also saw somebody didn’t feel enough for the food, include me. I thought the food was too delicious to make me hungry, and some other people. The other interesting thing during the party was the karaoke part. There were some people sang on the stage, include the students came from UWB and the students came from Cascadia. Some Americans also sang on the stage. All of them had good voices and gave me a good time. The best singer of course was Rachel. I think so.

About the room, the UWB students used the fands to decorate it. It was really simple, and it didn’t cost a lot of money, but they made the room gave me a warm feeling. I don’t know how to decribe the feeling, but it was really warm. Just like, I found another little China in America. I also learned several different languages to say “Happy new year”. But the Japanese one and Korean one were behind some people who were giving food out, I couldn’t take pictures of them, but I took a picture of Vietnamese. Even though the Vietnamese was really hard to pronounce.

At last, I want to talk about some things about we didn’t do well in the party. I am a part of the group to create the party. However, we still lost many things. We prepared some activities during the party. Such as, teach Americans make dumplings, teach Americans Chinese, street dancing, and Chinese-yoyo, but all of those activities didn’t work out. Finally, we just had karaoke for the whole party. On the other hand, most of the ELP students from China didn’t really enjoy the party because they thought the party was too boring. Because the Chinese students’ attitude, Rachel and Star had a little upset after the party. For me, the party really gave me a good time, not only because I helped to create it, but also it was a chance for Asian students to get together and have a little fun. Even though some students didn’t give our party a praise, but I don’t give up yet. If next year I still have chancce, I will still work in group and create another Lunar New Year Party again!

Valentine’s Day

I never had Valentine’s Day before, because I never had a boyfriend in my life. This was the picture that I talked about in my last essay in class. Isn’t that great? I stayed up all night for making this. My hands were really hurt after I finished, but it was really worth it. There are ten paper hearts in the picture. It is hard to explain why I made ten because I made one for example first to see if it really works. And I made nine after because I want our love to last as long as we can. Nine is a word that means long time in Chinese. It took me three hours to finish this bunch of balloon shapes. Kim seemed happy to see this, and I was really proud of my smarts. How did I think of this? Even I don’t know.

 

 

Do you like this picture? I really like this picture because this is the full view of Space Needle.  I planned a trip with my friends on my first Valentine’s Day. I was going to have fun. We planned to go to the Space Needle at night to see the night view of Seattle because we had never been there. I came to Seattle last year. I was really surprised that I had never been to Space Needle until yesterday. Actually, I have been there once, but didn’t get to the top. Last time I went there I saw a plane flying a slogan after it and it said “XXX, please marry me!” It was amazing and romantic. Because of we hadn’t been eating all day, so we decided to eat first.

 

All the way down, I saw a fun place there. There is my favorite merry-go-round. This is the only thing in the amusement park that I dared to take since I was a child. Every time my friends asked me to go to the amusement with them, my aim is “If you need somebody to look after your bag, I am always there.” Fortunately, we got there late and all the rides were closed, so that I don’t have to get on them yesterday. This was really lucky for me. But anyway, it looks fun.

 

When we came back to the Space Needle, it was very dark there. We found many souvenirs at the bottom of the space needle. I got a lollypop with a red crab on it. It was really cute. It must be taste very good.

How can I explain the view on the top of the Space Needle? It was cold there and it was crowed there because of the Valentine’s Day. It gave couples a good reason to hug. What I saw on the top was the lake twinkled, the lights twinkled. It was so beautiful for me. I think this was the reason why couples are like to go there. Of course, the ticket was expensive too. About 17 dollars per person. Since I came to America, I never saw Seattle’s night view because I think it is dangerous for people stay late outside. If Space Needle pull down a little of it price, I am thinking of going to the Space Needle at the next Valentine’s Day.

Finally, I got there

I have been in Seattle for more than one year, but I never gone to Space Needle. Many friends tell me that Space Needle is not a fun place to go and it is kind of expensive. I should pay 17 dollars and just take an elevator to the top. Many friends ask me don’t go there, at least, don’t take the elevator. However, I really want to go to Space Needle. I know perhaps Space Needle doesn’t have many funs, but it is the sigh for Seattle. I have been Seattle for more than one year, but I never gone to the most famous place. That’s regretful. Yesterday, the Valentine’s Day, I went to the Space Needle with Rachel, Star and Over, who is Star’s boyfriend. ^ ^

First, we took monorail to Space Needle. There were too many people on the station, so I didn’t take a picture for the monorail. But I will show you the ticket. ^ ^

Secend, We went to Sushi Land to have dinner. Sorry about that, I won’t show the picture when I am eating. It is awful. >_< By the way, I ate 13 plates sushi.

Finally, I got there. It is much more baeutiful than I heard before.

And then, I paid 17 dollars to take the elevator and get to the top of Space Needle. I took a lot of pictures when I was on the top. I had 360° view when I was on the top. It was great! But that day was a rainy day and my camera was not good at working at night. So, the pictures were not very good. But I will show them to you! Those are the best.                                      

Even though many friends tell me don’t go to Space Needle, but after this experience.  I would say: Space Needle is GREAT!!
